Bank of America Logo

The Bank of America actually started as a small bank by the name of the Bank of Italy. The founder, Amadeo Giannini, created it as a bank to lend to immigrants that the other banks in San Francisco wouldn’t lend to. From those humble beginnings, the Bank of America has become one of the most well-known banks in the United States. With millions of customers and a spot on the Fortune 500 list, the Bank of America has offices in every state of the U.S. and makes profits in the billions of dollars.

One important factor that has helped Bank of America reach its lofty heights is the distinctive look of their logo. The patriotic colors and picture really seem to speak to their American audience leading millions of people to open accounts with Bank of America. Bank of America has managed to tap into a powerful force with their patriotic logo and anyone who seeks to create a branding empire of their own should consider the history of the Bank of America logo.

Logo#1-BA

The first logo of Bank of America, after it had lost the Bank of Italy affectation, was quite stylized. The logo showed the name Bank of America in plain block letters. Next to the name in much larger font is the letters “BA” standing for Bank of America. The B is partially covering the A, but not so much as to make the thing unreadable. This simple logo seems meant to express the banks professionalism. The logo is obviously professional denoting a professional bank. This logo lasted for 20 years, showing how well-received it was.

Logo#2-The Flag and Field

The next logo of Bank of America, and the one that it still uses today, was introduced in 2001 after the bank restructured. This logo uses red and blue stripes to denote the image of the United States flag. This image worked to tap into the nations patriotic feelings as well as to cement Bank of America as a wholly American institution.

The logo also has an added symbolism that not many people are aware of. Besides an American flag, the image is also supposed to denote a farmer’s field. As many farmers trust and work with Bank of America, this image was meant to resound with them. This image also serves to promote Bank of Americas trustworthiness and reliability for all its account-holders.

Why the Logo Works

As a top member of the Fortune 500, with assets in the billions there can be little doubt that the logo of the Bank of America works. This company has branches throughout the United States and has grown to become a household name. The logo of this company is quite powerful in that it attempts to tap directly into the patriotic feelings of the U.S. Those are strong feelings and Bank of America has succeeded in helping to capture a part of that energy. This, in turn, has led to Bank of America being one of the most successful banks in the world.
